Counselling at Stepping Stones
What is counselling?
Counselling provides you with a safe place to talk.
During difficult times, talking through thoughts and feelings can help to explore what can be done to turn things around. Counselling is a form of talking therapy and can help people to take greater control of their life and improve their confidence.
How do I access counselling?
An experienced member of Stepping Stones staff will meet with you for a discussion and assessment of your support needs, during which you will explore why you feel counselling will meet your needs.
You will be asked to complete a short questionnaire that helps you and the staff member understand how your current circumstances are affecting your mental health and well being.
If you and the staff member decide that counselling can be of help to you, you will be placed on our waiting list for the next available appointment which can take up to 3 – 6 months from your initial referral. Following this you will be contacted approximately one week before your counselling sessions are due to commence and you will be offered up to a maximum of 12 sessions, although this may be extended in exceptional circumstances. Sessions are usually held at the same time and place each week.
